ICD 10 and Ophthalmic Laser SX

Hey All-

We bill out PI and SLT lasers for many of our patients and I was questioning the coding on these. If we are billing a laser on the left eye, our DX should be for the left eye only, correct?

The doc and techs have been selecting the DX for bilateral eyes, which really doesn't make sense to me because they are only doing the laser on one eye.

Thanks in advance!!!

There doesn't seem to be anything about this in the I10 guidelines unless I'm missing it. To me if the patient has DX in both eyes it should be reported as bilateral if a bilateral I10 code exists then use the appropriate modifier for the CPT code to indicate only 1 side was treated.
