so i was told by a review facilitator that if you certify in november/ december you actually have up until you renew with AAPC to pass the icd-10 assessment or at that time they will not renew your membership which makes your certification not valid. They dont actually strip you of your certification BUT get that ICD-10 ASAP though!
 
I contacted AAPC about this a few weeks ago, because I take my certification exam in December. This is what the woman told me:

"If you are taking the examination in December then the ICD-10 certification maintenance requirement is extended to 2/29/16."
 
If certified in November the deadline is 1/31/16. If certified in December 2/29/16 is the deadline. they are basically giving you 2 full months to get it
