Good morning,

I need help finding the appropriate code for a 56 year old mother who has an unspecified scar from a previous cesarean delivery. The codes that are available(O34.211, O34.212, & O34.219) are for patients 12 to 55 years old. Thank you.

Is the 56 year old patient expecting??

Hello cb122454,

I am assuming with your code choices that this patient is an expectant mother at age 56? If so, since the scar is unspecified you can't code low transverse scar or vertical scar (O34.211 & O34.212) which leave the unspecified code O34.219 as the correct choice along with the advanced maternal age DX and weeks gestation DX. As far as the age goes if the claim(s) is denied by insurance for the DX you might have to send in the documentation or send an appeal with documentation to get your claim(s) paid for.

Hope this helps~

Thank you Megan,

You've given me sound advise; and yes, patient is 56 years old. She actually delivered by C-section. Thanks again and have a great evening.
