Hello,
What is the correct code please?

I am always confused which to code 1) excessive sputum (R09.3 or 2) Other Foreign Object in Other Parts of Respiratory Tract causing aspiration. I feel that 2) referring to "foreign object" is inaccurate because mucous isn't a foreign object, IMO.

thank you,
Sandra

Index: Plug-Mucus-See Asphyxia, mucus. When you go to Asphyxia-Mucus-See also foreign body, respiratory tract, causing, asphyxiation. When you go there it leads to Asphyxiation T17.900_ (subcategory under that food/bone/seed-T17.920_, Gastric contents/vomitus-T17.210_ and specified type NEC T17.298_. Hope that helps
