How do I find out the correct ICD 10 code for post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage? I am finding conflicting information online. One place I check says to use K91.840 and another says to use J95.830. How do I know which is correct? All of the tonsil dx codes are in the respiratory system section now for ICD 10 but in CPT the tonsil codes are in the digestive system section. HELP!!

Id probably go with the J code. All the tonsil DX appear to be in this area. Had the bleeding not been post surgical it would have been J35.8

That is what I have been using for reason you mentioned.
Thanks for your response!!

Its a pain because technically its in the lymphatic system (at least that where its pictured in the anatomy section drawings.) I just think of ICD and CPT being two unrelated coding systems so I lean towards where the ICD book refers for ICD questions. CPT book is running out of room so they are pretty much putting anything where they can fit it so who even knows if its in the correct section.
