Does anyone know how PCS will work? Let's say our Ortho Dr. goes to hospital to do a hip replacement. Will he code a PCS code or continue to use CPT? What kind of training will we need to give our Dr's? Thanks.
PCS codes replace ICD-Vol 3 codes. They will be used for the inpatient facility coder only and will notbe used by the physician coder on any claim. SO to answer your question, Your physician will continue to use the CPT codes for his claims regardless of the POS.
I would like to add that the hospital might be providing your physician with documentation training needed to support the PCS system through their CDI program.
