In the 2009 edition of the Dx codes there is a convention listed that there is no description for. It is a upper case "D." The first example of this is code 005.1 Botullism food poisoning and this is listed under the description for the code. Any ideas?

I must be looking in the wrong area! I can't find what you're referring to. Could you let me know, what book are you reading this in, what page number?.. I don't find it in my ICD-9-CM 2009 EXPERT coding book.

ICD-9 Conventions

Hi Donna,

The book I found this in is the ICD-9-CM 2009 Hospital Volumes 1, 2 and 3 ninth revision - clinical modification by AMA. It is in the red section "infectious and parasitic diseases? page Volumne 1--3. The Dx code is 005.1. This diagnosis is a CC and in the explation of the code there is a purple square box with an upper case "D" in side the box. Thanks for checking!
