I'm new to physical therapy coding and am being told that all physical and occupational therapy charges have to be billed with more than one ICD 9 code. Is this true and if so, can someone offer some guidance?
 
In the ICD-9 CM guidelines in the front of your book look under general guidelines, number 15 encounters for rehab. The first listed dx code for rehab encounters is required to be V57.- for PT it will be V57.1. This is a first listed only allowed code. The secondary code will be the reason for rehab.
