What exactly are the guidelines for coding a chronic tear or fracture? I did finds these in the ICD10 guidelines.

Any current, acute injury should be coded to the appropriate injury code from chapter 19.
Chronic or recurrent conditions should generally be coded with a code from chapter 13.


I have a patient with a Chronic deltoid and anterior talofibular ligament tear, left ankle. Injury occured in 2024.
I was thinking of coding, but there is an excludes 1 with M24.272 reporting the injury code
M24.272-Disorder of ligament, left ankle
S93.422S-Sprain of deltoid ligament of left ankle, sequela
S93.432S-Sprain of tibiofibular ligament of left ankle, sequela
