I got an path report back on a patients colonoscopy it say high grade squamjous intraepithelial lesion. This is a male patient. It does not acutually say ca in situtuation. How would you code this. The leson was in the rectum?
 
We are not qualified to interpret lab reports. I know, it's like splitting hairs. But, in these situations I take it directly to the physyician and ask them if they interpret the as findings as "cancer" or not. If treatment with chemo is begun, you can bet they feel the lesion is cancerous.

Usually, when squamous cells are found, they are cancerous. But I do not like to assume without that additional verification.
