How would you bill pediatric ICU "step down" care (critical care vs. regular visits)? The best I can figure is CPT 2013 states that when the critically ill nonate or pediatric patient is transferred to a lower level of care, the transferring physician does not report a per day critical care service but instead reports Subsequent Hospital Care codes (99231-99233) or Critical Care Services codes (99291-99292) as approprriate as based upon the condition of the neonate or the child. Does anyone know of anything different?
