Pt. comes in for an I&D of an perineal abscess. This is done in OR under anesthesia. CPT 10061 is used. The procedure note clearly states, "patient is to return Monday for removal of packing and repacking under anesthesia secondary to the pain with the procedure and the location of this".

What CPT code would I use for that 2nd visit? It is not an I&D at that point, but will be done again in the OR with anesthesia. I don't think it is a simple wound dressing either. Your thoughts?
 
I would look to code 15852 to report this as a dressing change under anesthesia (must be more than local and not for a burn). You would need to append either 58 or 78 for the return to the operating room depending on the documentation to support as a staged or related procedure.
