I have a provider who wants to charge 20680 with 12035, these codes are bundles. He states he is excising a widened scar and advancing the edges removed. We have some questions. This provider needs to see the reference materials for any responce.
1. Can a surgeon who is doing a deeper procedure ever bill for excising and revising a scar and if so how? Or is this procedure always free to the patient if this procedure is done by the primary surgeon in addition to another procedure?
2. Should the primary procedure be coded added difficulty or is scar revision considered part of all deep procedures such as 20680?
3. Can a second surgeon bill for scar revision when the primary surgeon is doing a deeper procedure?
