When a bone marrow aspiration and/or biopsy is being performed and the physician is unable to complete the procedure because of patient discomfort or not being able to reach the bone, is modifier 53 appropriate for the professional fee? This would be performed in an Inpatient setting. We report these charges in our Outpatient facility also sometimes.
