Hi,

We had a patient come in twice for a vasectomy. The first visit it was difficult for the Dr. and we apparently did not complete the vasectomy. The patient has presented again to complete it. Would I use the same 55250 code with V25.2 for both procedures? I havent seen anything that would indicate an incomplete or revised one. Thanks

lauraavsi,

If the first vasectomy was started and then stopped then you would have to bill 55250 with modifier 53 appended (discontinued procedure). But if the patient got "cold feet" prior to the procedure being started, you could not bill for the procedure. Insurances will not pay for two vasectomies, unless the second is after a reversal.

Hope this helps!
