Hello everyone.
We need some help on a coding guideline. It is from chapter 17 for injuries. We are having a hard time understanding the different scenarios on choosing the principal dx code.

Primary injury with damage to nerves/blood vessels.
When a primary injury results in minor damage to peripheral nerves or blood vessels, the primary injury is sequenced first with additional code from categories 950-957 (injury to nerves and spinal cord) or 900-904 (injury to blood vessel). When the primary injury is to the blood vessels or nerves, that injury should be sequenced first.

This guidelines is so tricky so we were hoping someone could shed light on it or provide examples of when you code a primary injury and when you code the actual blood vessel/nerve injury.

Thanks!
