Inpatient Consult and Inpatient Visit on Same Day

Cardiovascular doctor saw a patient for inpatient consult and same day came back and saw patient again, they billed both charges. I need to know if this is allowed, I can not find any information in the cpt or on line regarding this. It was my understanding that if a provider was in the same practice and had already seen the patient earlier in the day if they come back to see the patient it can only be billed one time per day? Please help me with this.
