I would like to get feedback on the following scenario, possibly based on some commercial guidelines for the Maryland area.

A patient with commercial insurance was admitted in the hospital by an oncologist. Hospital medicine was asked to manage the patient's ongoing medical comorbidities by oncology. Since this was not a consultation and simply a transfer of care, can the hospital medicine provider bill for the initial hospital care(99221-99223) or should they bill for a subsequent hospital code(99213-99233), since they cannot bill an inpatient consultation code(99251-99255).

Any insightful recommendation is appreciated.
