We have a patient who was previously admitted and discharged from the hosptial. The next day, the patient was readmitted and our hematologist was asked to see the patient for the same reason as the day before. Because this is a "New Admission", are we not allowed to bill for a new inital visit (99221-99223)? or is there a time limit between admissions? It is my understanding that we can and I am not familiar with any set time limits, but wanted to make sure. Also, would the admitting diagnosis have any effect on this?
