I'm coding the Inpatient E/M for Hospitalist/Intensivist.

I'm curious to know if you can code a minor procedure with your initial admitt charge CPT 99221-99223. Like laceration repair or Incision and drainage.

This is usally done by the ER's, but today the Intensivist I do the coding for ask me if were able to charge a lacertion repair or Incision and Drainage charge with here Inpatien admitt codes.

This must be rare, but has any of you come across this.

Thanks

Yes.

A minor procedure should be fine to be billed on the same day as an IP admission, but you should append modifier 25 to the admit and make sure your documentation supports a separately identifiable admission and not just a procedure note.
