If a patient who has dementia is not fully awake can the provider still bill for this visit? would you consider this face-to-face acceptable? Exam is deferred because provider does not to wake her up....I don't think this should be billed. Daughter is there and they discuss her discharge the next day.
 
Yes this is billable. There are a lot of reasons an inpatient would not be able to participate in their own care. Inpatient includes "floor time" which includes talking to family, other providers and coordination of care with other doctors.
