The surgeon was asked to an intraopertative consult....with an operative procedure performed on the same day. I am looking for that intraopertative consult code (or do you use the inpatient consult codes... :confused:) Any input would be greatly appreciated.
 
Except ...

Except that you typically do NOT have any history and only a very limited exam (due to the sterile operative field.

We tend to use 99499 - Unlisted E/M service if TRULY all that was done was to assess and offer an opinion.

Other times that intra-operative consult really turns into an assist at surgery.

Of course, it all depends on the documentation.
