Never had a case like this one...Our surgeon performed an APR for adenocarcinoma of the rectum. He also assisted an oncologist with an intraoperative electron beam radiotherapy.
Afte the resection was completed the oncologist was called in. Our surgeon resected tissue to expose the tumor. The cone for therapy was put in place by the oncologist and then packed by our surgeon. Treatment was given by the oncologist with our surgeon in attendance to help with positioning. Patient was then sent back to the operative room for completion of the APR. Not sure what my surgeon can charge...22 modifier? This involved about one extra hour of his time assisting the oncologist. Any thoughts would be very appreciated...thanks!:o
