Wiki IOP Billing Question

Hi There,

We bill IOP as a facility (S9480). Most insurances require IOP to be 3 hours a day/3 days per week. We have a client who is in aftercare. It's the same group therapy session as the regular IOP; however, she only comes in 1 time a week until her therapy is completed.

The group session is 3 hours, and facilities are allow to bill 3 units of 90853. So, my question is this - should we bill the 3 units of 90853 for aftercare? Or continue to bill the S9480 for IOP?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
