Our IR chief has a question regarding orders. His question: "Are there any actual things precluding IR docs from being the ones who place the orders for their own procedures?" He stated that there are times when he is asked to assist with a patient who is dying, and due to the urgency, he will place the order himself instead of calling the referring provider to do so. However, he was told by one of his more "experienced" IR providers that since they are radiology, this isn't allowed under CMS. Our chief is seeking a definitive answer and any written proof. We are located in Indiana. Thoughts? Suggestions? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
