Could you count iron deficiency as a quality of anemia under HPI?
 
Our providers normally state the quality of the anemia is iron deficiency. I count that. It's a characteristic of the sign/symptom.

I agree with your thinking. Unfortunately, other coders do not. Coming from a Hem/Onc standpoint, I believe it is also a quality of the anemia. I've had a similar discussion also about anemia being counted as a location but again from a Hem/Onc standpoint some specialist say yes other coders no.
