Is this included in the patients global period?

Patient had a femral neck fracture and we completed a prosthetic replacement. While recovering in rehab the wound reopened and was taken to the ER where we were called in for a consult. We opted out on doing an I&D due to the patient's complications. Can I bill for this concult or is it included in the global from her surgery?
 
If your doc (or someone in the group) did the surgery and this is a Medicar patient, then no you cannot bill for the consult. Medicare will only pay for complications during the global if the patient returns to the OR.

If this is another carrier you will have to check their policies on surgical complications. Some may pay and other will not.
