Can we bill for this?
Our Pediatric Gastroenterologist is following a patient for Angelman Syndrome with dysphagia and FTT. A PEG was planned at the last office follow-up visit. Prior to the planned PEG, the parents came back in the office with the patient (a toddler) to discuss the many questions and concerns the father had regarding placement (He wasn't sure it was needed). The visit lasted 30 minutes and consisted of answering questions about complications, risks, timing of button placement, use of tube after, reversibility, where the tube would be, anesthesia, and the benefits and hydration plan for the immediate 6 weeks post op. I'm thinking we cannot bill for this encounter. Plus, I'm not sure what ICD-9 code to list.
