Wiki Iv coding

I have a doctor that seen a patient that got discharge for the hospital with pneumonia. He set this patient up for iv therpy in our office. When the patient come in the next day for iv and doctor see him in the iv room just to see how he is doing can doctor charge and e&m visit for that or because the appointment was for iv he can only charge the iv therapy by time. Is there some whrer i can go to get that information in writing?

I would recommend reviewing the documentation carefully for medical necessity requirements. Is their evedence that a different problem requires management? Is the treatment plan requiring a change? Is there additional workup ordered?

Just walking in the room to visibly check the patient when they are there specifically to receive IV treatment would not necessarily justify a separate E&M without some sort of Medical Decision Making going on.
