ok here is my question. we are an individual orthopedic practice that has our own mri department. if we perform an mri w,w/o contrast of the brain (70553) can you bill for the iv contrast material ? i know that the a9579 is the injectable but not sure if that would also apply for the iv as well. if i am in the complete wrong section also please let me know which avenue to proceed .

thank you

I'm not sure of the correct HCPCS for IV version but you can bill the supply separately. Its just oral and rectal that don't count as contrast

I am new to neurosurgery (although 35 years billing and coding) and we are rarely paid for hcpcs code A9579. We bill it with MRI's specifically 70553 and most payers deny for "not a covered service". I am in Georgia. Does anyone else have this issue?
