Hello! My name is Katrina Ray and I have a bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, and I received my CPC in January. I am struggling with trying to find positions for apprentice coders. Do you have any advice?
I agree. This took me a lot of time and effort. How am I supposed to keep practicing my skills if I can’t even find work?! What was the point? This is very disappointing to hear that a person who chooses this field and invests time, effort, and money in education will then be unable to work in their chosen field.
Question- when you say internship…does the position pay?I obtained my CPC-A in November of 2025. It was discouraging looking for positions because they all were looking for experience, but I was able to land a Revenue Intergrity Intern position where I am getting hands on experience with coding for different specialties. So like Pam said a few responses above, it is best to try to get your foot in the door in the revenue cycle in general so that you can move around and get into a specialty or practice you enjoy. Doing this internship will allow me to get my A removed as well as have experience which will open up more doors. Hope this helps.![]()
Yes, I need help because I can't find a job.Hello! My name is Katrina Ray and I have a bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, and I received my CPC in January. I am struggling with trying to find positions for apprentice coders. Do you have any advice?
Thank you for this! I've put out 50 applications in 4 months and just had my first phone interview for a billing position. My advice is to not look specifically for a coding position. Look instead to get your foot in the door at a hospital or practice: billing, medical records, patient access, scheduling, office assistant, front desk representative, etc. Then be the best employee they have: offer to help, learn, support, etc., so that when an internal coding position opens up, you're in line to apply with a good work record. Entry level coding positions just don't exist any longer and honestly, many certified coders find that other areas of the revenue cycle are far more interesting than coding, so you may find that you're happy in a different role.
My personal plan is if I am still unable to get a coding job in 6 months that I'll do the additional program with AAPC to get my A removed.I agree. This took me a lot of time and effort. How am I supposed to keep practicing my skills if I can’t even find work?! What was the point?
Oh my goodness, CONGRATS! That many applications show some serious dedication!Thank you for this! I've put out 50 applications in 4 months and just had my first phone interview for a billing position.
