dialysis training code 90989

I am coding for a nephrologist and recently need to clarify whether or not 90989 training code can be used. Most recent supercoder information (posted 6 months ago) states that providers can no longer bill their involvement in training. I code only the provider services, not the facility in which the dialysis takes place.

Our Nephrologist do not bill for this service, so I am unsure of the answer, but whenever I have a Nephrology question I post it on the Renal Physicians Association (RPA) listserv at Google Groups. You can find it under RPAbilling. I have found that they have reliable answers and reply quickly. I hope this helps.
