The doctor injected Kenalog into the hyoid bone and cricoid bone. We usually use cpt code 11900 for Kenalog injection but it looks like that is for lesions. Can 11900 still be used or unlisted code 21899 or is there a better code for this. Here is the procedure:

Diagnosis: Hyoid and laryngeal bone pain syndrome as well as globus sensation and odynophagia

Procedure: Bilateral injection of Kenalog/steroids to hyoid bone and cricoid bone

Details: The patient was seen in preop and was brought to the OR suite. The patient underwent mask sedation. Once properl sedated, direct laryngoscopy was performed and dictated separately. Inferior turbinate reduction was performed as well and dictated separately. Then both the hyoid and cricoid were grasped externally. Using a 27 gauge long needle, palpation with the needle was performed on to the cricoid bone first and the lateral side of the cricoid bone, and approximately 0.5 of Kenalog at 40 mg/cc were injected into the cricoid joint bilaterally. Procedure was then performed again at the level of the hyoid bone at the lateral joints. Once this was done, the patient was turned over to anesthesia. Once this was completed, all cricoid and hyoid joints were injected with Kenalog. The patient was then turned over to anesthesia in stable condition.
