We have a draw station only in our office and send all specimens out to a lab for testing. My question is, can we charge patients a nominal fee for the convience of coming in our office for lab draw versus going to a lab? If not that, can we charge a draw fee to the insurance company? Or patient?

A family member had personal experience with this issue and this was what transpired: Medicare only will pay $3 and the patient is not responsible or permitted to be billed for the balance (for cpt code 36415). The outside lab where the specimen was sent will be paid by insurance and any balance due from the patient according to insurance contract plan.
