I'm newly returning to OB coding after a 10 year break. I know this happens occasionally but don't know how to code it.
My OB was managing a patient's labor and left the hospital after a few hours, the membranes were still intact. She was paged as the patient started to advance, but the patient delivered 5 minutes later, before the doctor arrived. The placenta delivered just before the OB arrived.
So, I'm at a loss on how to code this. Do I use 59410 with modifier -52?
Or would I use an E&M for the labor management and code 59430, and not code the delivery at all?
