OUR REFERENCE LAB WILL NOT ACCEPT LACTIC ACID FOR OUR MEDICARE PATIENTS BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS NOT A COVERED TEST. I CANNOT FIND AN LCD OR NCD. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

83605 is on the CMS Clinical Lab Fee Schedule, which to me indicates that Medicare pays for it at least sometimes.

I would assume there is no coverage for 83605 as a screening/preventative lab test, but I haven't found any information to say it wouldn't be covered as a diagnostic test.

I searched the CPT code for all states on the CMS MCD lookup tool, and it returned zero results. https://www.cms.gov/medicare-coverage-database/search.aspx
