Hi everyone,
I need an expert opinion on coding a lap hernia repair w/ strattice mes placement. Normally, I would code it appropriately, 49652 or 49653, whatever the case may be, and not separetely code the mesh since the mesh placement is already included w/ these codes. Well, another coder in our practice submitted a claim and coded the mesh separatedly using only 15777 w/out even using 15271 or 15273 along w/ it. Low and behold, the separate code for mesh got denied and left the patient w/ a huge bill. Needless, to say she's not coding anymore and I'm left doing all the chores. My question now is, when the op note indicates Strattice mesh placement, should I include 15271/15273 and 15777 along w/ the appropriate lap hernia repair code?
