I am trying to get some information on incidental finding while performing a lap gastric band. My physican performs lap gastric banding quite often in surgery durning the intial procedure he detects a hernia and repairs the hernia. I have always been told that anything that is incidental cannot be coded. So my code would be 43770. Does anyone know if there is a policy for incidental coding and where i can find it. Can we code the hernia along with 43770. These produres do not bundle in cci. Will the insurance company pay the lowest of the two if sent to insurance together.
