I am having trouble trying to find the correct ICD 10 code to use for a phlegmon of unencapsulated clot in left pelvic side wall. I've come up with R19.04 or K68.9, but I am still not sure if that is correct. Any help would be appreciated!

First, let's define what a phlegmon is. It refers to a local area of inflammation in the soft tissues and can be the result of an unencapsulated clot which caused the initial inflammation. If you look at the ICD10 index, this term leads you to see "abscess", but an inflammation does not necessarily mean there is also an abscess and the op note should indicate if the area was drained (and if so this would indicate an abscess). Since the pelvic wall is considered a retroperitoneal structure, the code you you have selected is close, but note that the K68 code category also includes postprocedure infections so it would be good to check on the cause of this phlegmon.
