Is it hard to leave a coding job for a period of time and try to get back Into the coding field a few years later?

It really depends on location and job availability. I left the field from 2006-2008 and came right back in no problem. But of course this was many years ago. Good luck!

I agree with location and job availability, but also the type of coding job you want to go back to. As coding changes every year with changed codes in every aspect (CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS), including updated guidelines, you will need to catch up on what you have missed. If you keep up with the changes, I think you will be ok and the break is not too long.

this gives me hope. I left the coding field in 2011 and will be getting re-certified after the start of the new year.
