Hello,

I have a doctor stating there is a 1 cm malignant lesion of the left leg. The entire excision measured approximately 1 x 5 cm. How would I code with only this information? Would I code the measurements 1 x .5 x .5=2.0cm or 1 x 1 x .5 x .5 = 3.0?
The pathology report left leg mass is an excised skin ellipse measuring 5 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width and excised to a dept of 0.5cm with diagnosis well differentiated invasive squamous cell carcinoma-completely excised.

Excisions are coded to the greatest width including margins. (this is the greatest dimension of the actual excision, not the repair done afterwards).

If an ellipse was excited, use the 5cm length, as this is the greatest for code selection.
