Good morning,

I have a provider wanting to bill for lidocaine separately from the procedure code 20552 for a trigger point injection. Typically, I feel like billing J2000 is denied as not being separately billable when billed with CPT 20552. Does anyone have recent experience with this situation? Thanks so much!

Hi, well J2000 was deleted quite a while ago. Is it the only drug being injected? If being given with another drug like Kenalog, it wouldn't be separately billable. I don't have access, but if you do, there were some Coding Alerts on the subject. I do see in the HCPCS Coding Clinic there is an example of it being given with 20552 and it states to use J2002-J2004.
