Wiki Locum Tenens Billing

I am going to attempt to piggy back onto this. We have a provider that is leaving the practice and intend to hire a locum provider. How would we go about billing for the locum since the provider he is replacing will no longer be with the clinic? My understanding was the claims had to go out under the Physician's name in which the Locum was covering for.

Does anyone have clarification on this?

That is correct. You will bill under the physician who is leaving for up to 60 days. The modifier will show that the actual work was performed by the locum tenens.

and we can still legally bill under that provider even though he will no longer be with the practice?

Yes, exactly. Modifier Q6 to indicate locum.

FYI - during the pandemic the 60 day rule is temporarily lifted (until at least 60 days after the pandemic ends). After the 60 days, you bill with Q6 and CR.
