Does a locum need to have his documentation and/or labs countersigned by one of the regular physicians. I can't find anything anywhere about documentation requirements for a locum. Any information would be very much appreciated!

Accordingly to the Medicare Billing manual regarding Locum Tenens physcians nothing is stated about having to have his/her documentation countersigned. They are licensed physicians and have their own NPI numbers. The only requirement is that the documentation show that the locum tenens provider is substituting for the patient's regular physician, and the Medicare billing append modifier Q6 to indicate the relationship.
