What code is everyone using for low vitamin D? There has been much discussion in our office between the coders and physicians about whether or not we can code this as vitamin D deficient, and we would just like to know what others are using for this.

If vitamin D level is below medically accepted levels you should be able code as vitamin D Deficiency

A level less than 12 ng/mL indicates vitamin D deficiency. If its higher than that maybe query the physician.

A coder is not allowed to code from a lab result. The lab must be evaluated by the provider and a diagnosis rendered. The cannot code even abnormal lab without the provider stating the values were elevated or low.
