How do we code for an unsuccessful lumbar puncture? Can we only bill the kit?
 
Depending on the circumstances and setting you may be able to use one of the following modifiers:
52, 53, 73 or 74

* 73 & 74 (use for hospital outpatient, not for physician coding)
