I have a question from a compliance stand point regarding the use of a medical assistant as a scribe. I understand that an MA can be used as a scribe, but my question is regarding the use of the MA as a scribe AND MA during the same visit.
Meaning- the MA checks the patient in, does the regular patient check in process- documenting the CC, taking and documenting vitals, and then proceeds to document the visit for the provider in the capacity of a scribe.

I have read before that an MA can be used as a scribe as long as they are not performing any other patient care related to the visit. However, I can not locate this information on line anywhere. Can anyone help shed any light on this for me?

Thank you for your help!
