I have received billing from an osteopath who is doing manipulation under anesthesia of all body joints. ie(shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee ankle) Although I have found information for the code 22505 for spinal manipulation under anesthesia used by chiropractors and osteopaths, I can find nothing on the other joints. He is using surgical codes 23700, 24300 etc. which I would expect to see on surgical codes for orthopedic injuries not for manipulation. Does any one have experience with this type of billing?

Manipulations

All of the osteopathic manipulations are 9892x. The 20000 series are reserved for fractures and dislocations. There is 27570 for the knee joint, but insurance companies have very specific guidelines for use of this code (i.e. post-arthroplasty, etc.) and I doubt you will be successful using it.
