Hello, I was confused by something a coding teacher for Blitz said: she said that we don't need to use the outpatient CPT modifiers for the CPC Exam because they are for a different maybe CPC-H Exam??? I was wondering, for the CPC Exam, what are Volumes 1 and 2 of the ICD-9-CM manual for: outpatient or inpatient? And for the corresponding CPT book: are these outpatient procedures or inpatient procedures?

Thanks!

Volumes 1 & 2 are for outpatient and inpatient diagnoses coding.
Volume 3 is inpatient only procedures.
The CPT book is for outpatient procedures.

Volume 3 is not need for the CPC exam, only the CPC-H as you indicated.

Volume 3 is not needed for the exam for CPC-H. Some hospitals may
use it for data purposes but for the exam you do not need to know
Volume 3. Volume 3 is used in inpatient coding. Call AAPC to confirm,
I did a couple of months ago.
