Wiki Mapping to ICD 10 for V07.1

We were told to use Z51.89 for the allergy shots done in our clinic.
We are doing our migration to ICD 10.
I would appreciate any advice on this.
We are a small rural clinic and our patients prefer to come into our office rather than drive 60 minutes.

Hi Christine,

The allergist I bill for does not use a V code for the Dx. We use the actual dx code (ie....477.8, 477.0, etc). However, if you do decide to continue to use that code according to the gems on CMS site the Z51.89 is the closest match.

You should not use the allergy condition code such as the 477.8 ect. Since the shots are to prevent this condition from occurring. The reason for the encounter and the injections is prophylactic and the Z51.89 is the correct code. You have to remember the DX is the patients not the clinics. The patient is not currently experiencing acute allergy reactions so you cannot code something that is not currently present.
